The research that has influenced my work lies mainly within the areas of 90’s fashion photography, looking at photographers such as Juergen Teller, Vivianne Sassen and magazines such as i-D, Self Service and LOVE. Having the ability to create an imaginary or surreal moment in time through sets, props, cameras and lighting fascinates me and this is all achieved through the element of photography. I tamper with every area of the image, as in a still life, artfully arranging the clothes, props and model around the backdrop to create a 'complete' image and finally, taking the picture. By 'complete' I mean to draw attention to the picture as a whole, rather than direct attention straight towards what the model is wearing and to achieve this, I have created matching clothing, backdrops and props to generate an absolute scenario. The process of the images then being printed into a publication adds a further sense of mystery as the 3D concept is then printed flat; requiring the reader to analyse and look closer to understand how the image has been produced off of the paper.
