Hope Leye & Ashley Panton

Leeds Metropolitan and Leeds University Alumni

Hope 'Leye and Ashley Panton are both recent graduates currently based in Leeds.

At the core of Ashley’s art practice is the notion of escapism. Inspired by the immersive nature of narrative cinema, he is fascinated with its ability to seduce the audience. Through his work he attempts to explore this by deconstructing the art of cinema; Examining its raw elements, light, colour, movement, composition and sound, resulting in hypnotic narrative driven audiovisual installations.

Hopes' practices takes heavy influence and inspiration from the realms of photography, advertising, creative writing and a diverse range of musical cultures. Predominantly working through text the nature of most of his art practice is introspective and acts as an autobiographical mix of entwined and simultaneously scattered narratives. For this exhibition the two artists have collaborated to respond the Chemical Generation documentary. Their piece seeks to collage sounds, text and image to relive in reminiscence a night of party excess. A celebration of distorted realities, the piece seeks to embody the spirit of drug and rave culture that changed Britain in the 80's and 90's.
