My interest in human well being and anthropology has led to an interest in well being in a wider context, such as environmental issues and matters affecting our planet. For example, I have taken an interest in obtaining more information about fracking and genetically modified foods. This led to some pieces of work, albeit unfinished. In terms of my techniques, I have used a variety of materials including glass, metal, clay, fabric for costume making, painting, and performance. I have sometimes struggled to create pieces of work as originally intended, as my vision is often complex and difficult to portray in a simplistic way. However, I am developing some new techniques such as welding, to enable me to get closer to successfully grasping my vision. Finally, I have really enjoyed using performance to communicate my ideas and to interact with the audience. It is satisfying to get instant feedback and is an area that I would like to develop in the future.

My collection of Tribal Designs enabled me to concentrate on aesthetics and therapeutic activity. The initial design of my work was inspired by soothing musical sources, often with a meditative structure. Screen printed the design on to white fabric. With this fabric I created a skirt. Exhibited –Abstract (Leeds) 1979 exhibition is to create a metal structure that represents Margaret Thatcher, ‘ the iron lady’, and within it, I’m going to wear a dress made up of chains and a wrecking at the end of it, to represent how she closed down the mining industry and colleries in the 1980’s. Today, 30 years later, we are feeling the impact of her policies as the government is now exploring more dangerous ways of extracting gas from our planet, such as fracking and synergy, which has a global effect in the long run. The project is called The Iron lady. The structure is a tall metal contraption, approx 5 foot high, with a replica brain at the top and metal ribs running down the main length of the structure leading to a platform at the base. The base is in the shape of a mouth and is to be stood on. The model who will be standing on the base, will be required to wear a specific dress made of chains and a wrecking ball. The structure represents being confined by Margaret Thatcher’s leadership and policies, and the dress which is to be worn inside the contraption, is a representation of the economic disruption caused by Mrs Thatcher.

My proposal is an steal frame with a replica of a brain on the top. Ribs running down the structure that are made of metal enclosing me as the steel lady.
